It’s safe to say that Iowa and Minnesota weather is unpredictable.
We may have seen snow Friday, but tornado season is not far away.
On the list of the top 20 states for tornado activity Iowa is ranked number 6.
We told you last week that Mason City and about 50 miles surrounding has a higher-than normal tornado index, which is what determines the probability of tornadoes.
“Our area is in increased high risk, and that doesn’t mean that we’re doomed to get a tornado today or tomorrow, it just says conditions are right, the historical data is there that we will receive some very strong storms,” says Steve O’Neil, Emergency Management Coordinator for Cerro Gordo County.
While Minnesota didn’t make the list of top 20 states for tornado activity, there was a report of a tornado in southwest Minnesota just last Monday.
