MASON CITY, Iowa – It’s been a project that’s been ongoing for years and now crews are working to salvage the final round of homes in Mason City that have been sitting empty from the floods of 2008.
The Habitat for humanity ReStore has salvaged over 100 homes and this weekend are working on 8 more.
Everything taken from the vacant homes will be sold to the public at the ReStore.
“Main items that everyone’s looking for, we’re looking at kitchen cabinets, we’re looking at furnaces, water heaters, doors, windows, light fixtures, just about anything that you can pull out of a home that we sell in our store,” says Brian Lewerke, ReStore Manager.
They’ll continue to salvage homes this weekend and into next week and they’re always looking for more volunteers.
If you’d like to help out Saturday, meet at the ReStore at 9am.
