MASON CITY, IA - On Tuesday night’s City Council agenda was the approval for the redevelopment of the Clarion Inn, and it passed.
Council members are enthusiastic about the switch to a Hampton Inn and Suites which will include 83 rooms and a 40 unit condominium. They are also planning to include a pool, sweet shop, and a separate 4,600 square foot restaurant.
The only cause for concern was the loss of a convention space used for receptions and other large events, but the council believes that other options may present themselves.
Those with Kinseth Hospitality Companies say after 50 years, it’s time for an upgrade.
“You know we looked at the, you know the current age of our property and decided it was time to renew and develop that site and so we’re really excited about the opportunity to you know develop a brand new Hampton Inn product,” says Vice President Gary Kinseth.
He adds that if all planning goes smoothly we will see construction begin already this fall.
