Tax Day 2014

Tax preparers around the country today are busy helping people with last minute income tax filing.

You have until midnight tonight to get your taxes filed or to request an extension with the IRS.

We spoke to a local accounting service who said they’ve seen a lot of people coming in to file for those extensions today in order to avoid penalties.

“It’s calculated based on the time when the deadline is to file your income tax return and the penalty is 5% for each month that you have to wait to file,” says Enrolled Agent with D&S Services, Julia Dannen.

Many people wonder where there tax dollars are being spent, and now there’s a way to find out.

The White House website has what’s called a Taxpayer Receipt with a breakdown.
