KIMT News 3 – A north Iowa man has been convicted of having a firearm in federal court.
57-year-old Billy Thorne, of Mason City, was found guilty Thursday after one hour of jury deliberations.
Authorities say in July of 2012, Thorne traded his dog for a .22 caliber rifle which he planned to use to shoot his son. Prosecutors say Thorne had others hide the gun in a park because he feared police would find it in his home.
Thorne was arrested for a harassment charge and the gun was turned over to police. He faces 15 years to life in prison.
