Fire at Macy’s in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Rochester Fire Department was called to the Macy’s store at Apache Mall on Saturday morning. Several calls had come in reporting large amounts of smoke coming out the west side of the building.

Crews discovered a large fire between the dumpster and a trash compactor in an enclosed garage attached to Macy’s.  Customers were evacuated from the store and the sprinkler system was turned on to keep the flames from spreading.

The dumpster was pulled out of the building and crews were able to extinguish the blaze. The store is now back open for business. Damage is estimated at below $25,000 dollars. The Rochester Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
