Couple loses home to Easter Sunday fire

MOWER COUNTY, Minn. – A couple lost their home to fire early Easter Sunday morning.

According to LeRoy Fire Chief Tim Freerksen, the fire started about 3 a.m. at 10249 740th Avenue in Lodi Township.  It was a fire in an attached garage and the building was entirely ablaze when firefighters from LeRoy, Adams, Stacyville and Chester arrived.  Freerksen says flames also spread to the house and it looked like the structure was a total loss.

The elderly residents, Mary and Marvin Winkles, were outside the home when firefighters arrived.  Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi says Mary woke up to smoke in their home.  No one was injured.  The Winkles are being assisted by the Freeborn/Mower County chapter of the American Red Cross.
