Arrest made in house fire

MASON CITY, Iowa – The Mason City Police Department has arrested one woman for arson.

Jacque Paulsen, 32, has been charged with 1st Degree Arson,  a class “B” felony.

Fire crews say the blaze started around 8 p.m. on Monday night at 231 West State Street.

They were able to contain the fire to one apartment within the complex. However, officials say everything inside is likely destroyed. Nobody was inside the apartment and nobody was harmed.

According to the Mason City Fire Chief the blaze was started in the entry way of a second story apartment.

“Last night the Fire Marshall they did show up, they did their investigation, talked to other people from the apartment and then determined because of the location and the way the fire looked, it was intentionally set,” says Chief Bob Platts.

Paulsen’s charges are punishable by 25 years in prison and $25,000 fines.
