Making a multi-cultural community

A local community wants to give new life to their downtown, and they think highlighting cultural diversity could be the answer.

Just over 20% of Hampton’s population is Hispanic, that’s higher than many other Iowa communities.

The goal of the event is to get young people and their families engaged in community activities, no matter what their ethnic background is.

“The Hispanics are coming to support the economic base of your communities it will be very important for us to work together so we can be a support to each other, build community by working together and enhancing the opportunities for our children, activities for families,” says Norma Ramirez de Meiss with the National Main Street Center.

“How we can find common grounds and identify the differences in our cultures but yet strive to build the bridges to come together and work together to build community,” adds Ramirez de Meiss.
