National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The numbers are startling. Twice as many Americans regularly abuse prescription drugs than the number of those who regularly used cocaine, hallucinogens, heroin, and inhalants combined.

Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Agencies across the country allow people to drop of their unused, unwanted or expired medications to be safely disposed of. The goal is to keep these drugs out of the wrong hands.

“Things as simple as iron tablets that are over the counter can be very harmful to children. They’re colorful and very young children think it’s candy and they take those,” said Curt Clarambeau, owner of Curt’s Pharmacy in Albert Lea.
