Flood control project moves forward

AUSTIN, Minn. – Despite the heavy rain, some outdoor projects are still moving forward.

Sections of North Main Street in Austin will be closed as construction of the new flood wall continues.

The flood walls and beams near the Mill Pond just north of Downtown are in place to handle the rising water levels from the Cedar River which flooded the area back in 2004.

City officials say that upon completion, several area homes will no longer be considered under flood risk, saving them from having to purchase flood insurance.

The anticipated finish date is November.
