North Iowa homicide remains unsolved 22 years later

KIMT News 3- 22 years ago Wednesday, a 15-day old Mason City infant was found dead of smoke inhalation, after his parents home burned to the ground.

The fire was caused by arson and to this day the case remains unsolved.

According to the fire marshals investigation, Dillon Luna’s body was found in the same room where the fire was started.

There were five other people in the home at the time but according to police no one realized the baby was inside until after they were all out of the house.

Wednesday, we spoke to the Mason City Police Chief about how they handle cold cases such as this one after so much time has passed.

“There have been times where we have asked experts from outside the department to come in and experts in forensics, experts in profiling, things like that to go over the evidence and the case work a fresh set of eyes basically to take a look at it,” explains Chief Lashbrook.

He says significant dates like Wednesday; tend to bring in a lot of tips and feedback from the community.
