Cougar sightings in southern Minnesota

Minnesota DNR

MOWER COUNTY, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is investigating reports of a cougar in northwest Mower County.  Area wildlife supervisor Jeanine Vorland says they get credible sightings of cougars every two to three years, either escaped pets or cougars from South Dakota or Canada that wander into the state.  Vorland says they have not confirmed these latest reports but the signs look “suspicious”.  The DNR says there are no known breeding populations of cougars in Minnesota.
