ROCHESTER, Minn. – Mayo Clinic is launching the public phase of the largest fundraising drive in its history. The goal is to raise $3 billion by the end of 2017. A private campaign that began in 2010 has already collected over half that amount. Mayo Clinic president and CEO Dr. John Noseworthy says “reliable funding is the biggest barrier to advance medical breakthroughs that can benefit patients suffering from diseases” and traditional sources of money, like federal grants, are not enough. The start of public fundraising, which is being called “You are…the campaign for Mayo Clinic”, begins as Mayo celebrates its 150th anniversary.
