ALBERT LEA, Minn – A Wisconsin man has been arrested in connection with two attempted robberies in Albert Lea.  52-year-old Armando Gonzales is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, attempted vehicle theft, tampering with a motor vehicle and theft.  At around 5:48 am on May 9th, Albert Lea police were dispatched to the Midwestern Inn on a report of someone with a handgun demanding the keys to the victim’s vehicle.  The victim locked themselves in the hotel office and the suspect left without taking the vehicle.  A bit more than a hour later, officers were summoned to Americas Best Value Inn about someone with a handgun trying to take a vehicle.  In that case the suspect could not start the auto and the victim retreated to their room.  Albert Lea Police, Minnesota State Patrol and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office thoroughly searched the area for the suspect and, thanks to a citizen tip, took Gonzales into custody at approximately 7:30 am.
