State Rep. Savick sends letter to education commissioner

KIMT News 3- A local representative is trying to help a student fight her expulsion from school.

17-year-old Alyssa Drescher, who attends the United South Central High School, was expelled after she brought a pocket knife to school. Drescher claims she accidentally brought it to school after working at her boyfriend’s farm. The school district has a strict policy on bringing such weapons on school grounds.

State Representative Shannon Savick sent a letter to Minnesota Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius Friday morning. In it, Savick says she strongly supports the current school rules but adds that Drescher’s punishment seems out of place. Savick goes on to say that she wants common sense to prevail and to have Drescher return back to school.
