SPRING VALLEY Minn. – A 30-year old Spring Valley man is in custody after Deputies attempted to arrest him on a felony arrest warrant and a pursuit ensued.
According to Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen, Sonny Ray Juday was spotted by a Deputy around midnight in Spring Valley. The Deputy was aware that a felony warrant had been issued for Juday. Juday fled in a vehicle and drove to a residence known to be frequented by him, north of Spring Valley on County Road #1.
He fled on foot and officers were unable to locate him. A K-9 from the Austin Police Department assisted in the search for Juday
While searching the area for Juday, officers located chemicals and other items in a bus parked on the property that they felt could have been related to the making of explosives. Photos were sent to the Bloomington Bomb Squad. After reviewing the photos, it was determined that the bomb squad would come to the scene.
The Rochester/Olmsted County ERU Team was also requested to assist in the apprehension.
Juday was taken into custody at approximately 8:25am. He was transported to the Fillmore County Jail.
Officers executed a search warrant of the property at 11:05am. The Bomb squad detonated some of the unknown chemicals found. Sheriff Jensen said that no explosives or bombs were located in the bus or on the property. Jensen said that as a precautionary measure, nearby residents were evacuated until the scene was safe.
Juday will appear next week in Fillmore County District Court. Jensen expects additional charges subsequent to Juday fleeing from the officers. Additionally, evidence seized from the search warrant will be evaluated and reports will be sent to the Fillmore County Attorney for review.
