WATERLOO – The NIACC baseball team topped Iowa Central 9-8 to stay alive in the NJCAA Region XI tournament Saturday night.
Daniel Bradley was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Jake Adams was 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored two runs to lift the Trojans into Sunday’s noon elimination game against DMACC.
NIACC jumped out to a 7-1 lead after three innings and held on for the one-run victory.
Iowa Central trimmed the Trojan lead to 7-4 with three runs in their half of the fourth inning and eventually trimmed the deficit to one run with a single run in the eighth inning.
NIACC freshman Zach Fricke got the final out in the eighth inning and set the Tritons down in order in the ninth inning to gain the save.
NIACC starter Vincent Berrones threw one pitch in Saturday’s contest and was hit in the arm with a line drive. He tried to throw a warmup pitch but was unable to continue.
Quinn Ahern relieved Berrones and pitched three innings before giving way to Davis Bryan in the fourth inning. Bryan pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
