Murder trial pushed back

WORTH COUNTY, Iowa – A north Iowa murder trial will now be pushed back.

Tyrone Washington Jr. is accused of stabbing and killing Northwood native Justina Smith on August 5, 2013.

The trial was scheduled to start June 2nd but Washington Jr. waived his right to have a trial within one year of his arraignment.

According to court documents, the trial has been continued.

Court documents state Washington and his lawyer need more time to prepare for trial. Prosecutors added additional witnesses mid-April and some additional testing may need to be done.

A conference call is scheduled on May 20 to determine the new trial date.
