OSAGE, Iowa – In just a few weeks Memorial Day will mark the opening of many public pools around the area.
And for those who have pools in their back yards, police want to remind you of some rules.
In Osage, the police department says you’ll need to make sure you have the pool fenced-in.
That fence has to be five feet in height, to prevent any unattended persons from entering from the street.
Chief Brian Wright says it’s all about safety.
“Just to be safe about it. Make sure you have a fence up. Not to keep kids out of it, but to help protect your neighborhood kids or any kids from wandering in it.” said Wright.
He adds, if you have a pool in your yard without a fence, the first step they will take is give you a copy of the ordinance.
After that, police could give you a fine.
