Early morning fire in Rochester injures two firefighters

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Fire crews are currently on the scene of a fire in the 600 block of 3rd Ave SW in Rochester. Firefighters on the scene tell us a neighbor noticed the flames around 2:00 am and called the fire department immediately. The cause of the fire is unknown. The Rochester FD tells us nobody was home at the time, and the home was more than likely vacant. The structure is a total loss. Firefighters say because of the structure, it made the blaze even harder to fight. “Since the fire had a head start on us, the floors were unsafe for us to be on in much of the building, which did not allow us to fight the fire using our normal tactics,” Fire Captain Ken Dose said.

Two firefighters were injured during the blaze and both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was hurt.
