Plane crash injures pilot in Fillmore County


NEWBURG TOWNSHIP, Minn. – The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a small plane that crashed in Newburg Township on Saturday afternoon.

According to Chief Deputy Tony Webber, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at around 2:30pm.  According to Webber, the plane, a Preceptor Ultra Pup, was traveling from Wisconsin Rapids to South Dakota.  The pilot told authorities that he was experiencing mechanical difficulties.

The pilot, a 63 year old male from South Dakota, attempted to land the plane in an open field, but was unable to make the clearing and crashed into the trees. The pilot received minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by private party.

The FAA has been contacted and is working with Fillmore County authorities. Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office and Mabel ambulance responded to the call. The Fillmore Sheriff’s Office will release more information as details become available.
