Skogen to Grand View

MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore, Sam Skogen signed a national letter of intent to play basketball next season at Grand View University, an NAIA school in Des Moines.

Skogen, a 5-foot-11 guard, averaged 12.3 points per game as a sophomore with 100 assists. Skogen scored 676 career points with 175 career assists and 82 career steals.

Skogen, a second-team all-NJCAA Region XI selection, scored a career-high 26 points twice during his sophomore season.

“We are extremely proud of Sam,” NIACC coach Mark Mohl said. “He had 2 terrific years at NIACC and is just an outstanding person, student, and player.

“Grand View has an outstanding program and Sam will be a great addition to their program.  Sam has the ability to run a team, but can also score which makes him a valuable player.”

Grand View was 17-14 overall and 4-8 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference under veteran coach Denis Schaefer during the 2013-14 season. The Vikings will join the Heart of America Athletic Conference in the 2015-16 season.

At Mason City High, Skogen scored 1,216 points from 2008-2012, which ranks third in school history behind Jeff Horner and Dean Oliver.

Assists - 6, twice.
