MASON CITY, Iowa – Weather is to blame in the slowdown of a façade project in downtown Mason City.
What should have only taken a couple of months, has extended to nearly 10 as the final businesses involved in the project are just now receiving their final touches.
Jodee O’Brien, the executive director of Main Street Mason City says that because of when the project started and when winter rolled into town, things like painting and window details took a backseat for the season.
“We were hoping to have this finished up by last fall,” she says, “Sometimes they can do a little work in the winter time but it was just too cold.”
Brick Furniture was one of the first businesses to be worked on, however it will officially be one of the last ones completed. O’Brien says there is some final detailing work on the base of the building that requires warmer and drier weather.
Crews were out in full force on Wednesday working to get everything accomplished and because of the nice warm up in temperatures, O’Brien says they’re on course to have everything finished up by this time next week.
