MASON CITY, Iowa - Morel season is in full force, and it has people out searching in all kinds of places.
A little luck and an inside scoop can help those on the hunt.
Todd Von Ehwegen, Conservation Education Officer for Lime Creek Nature Center, says there are things to remember though.
“And they’re kind of fun because they are a little bit elusive. They can be hard to find, but then once in a while you get lucky and find a whole mother load of them, so people just need to make sure they can properly identify them,” said Todd.
You can check for them near dead elm trees or in apple orchards.
He says to remember that it is against the law to sell the mushrooms if you’ve gotten them from public land.
