ROCHESTER, Minn. – It’s hard to imagine but according to federal numbers Rochester’s population was sitting at nearly 86,000 in 2000.
Now those numbers are creeping over 110,000 people, that’s according to some new numbers released by the U.S. Census Bureau. These numbers however could just be the tip of the iceberg, especially with the Destination Medical Center project expected to bring in around 40,000 more people. That’s something officials always need to be looking at. “We are in the beginning stages of updating the city’s comprehensive plan. In doing that we will be evaluating projected population growth and the demographics… and identifying some strategies for accommodating that growth.” Mitzi Baker Director of Consolidated Rochester-Olmsted Planning Department said.
