FOREST CITY, Ia – On this Memorial Day weekend there are plenty of flags waving in North Iowa including Forest City’s first country music festival.
Organizers say upwards of 15,000 people made their way to the Tree Town Music Festival and are clearly having a good time.
Toby Keith headlined Saturday night’s concert and this time next year, Blake Shelton will be on stage, which could bring in an even bigger crowd.
Authorities say, despite all the people, festivities, and beer, it has been a pretty tame weekend.
“I mean you get 6,000 to 8,000 people in a campground, they don’t always get along but I cant say it’s been a bad thing. We’ve just had a couple of mostly loud party type situations, nothing serious,” says Forest City Police Chief Daniel Davis.
Friday’s headliner, Brad Paisley, made some waves when he changed his performance time, from headlining at night to playing much earlier than planned. This led to some traffic difficulties early in the day with so many ticket holders wanting to catch his early concert.
It turns out he was invited to join the President on a surprise visit to play for Afghanistan troops.
Officials say they have no reservations about hosting this festival for years to come.
