MASON CITY, Ia – Do you ever feel like appliances don’t last as long as they used to? We talked to an expert to find out just how much inflation has caused prices to rise over the years.
One Best Buy Shift Manager says a dishwasher, which used to be $300.00 dollars in 1980 is now $850.00. There are less expensive machines to wash your dishes, but they are made with cheaper materials. This causes those models not to last as long. So spending the extra money right away, might not be a bad idea. It’s like the old saying goes, “buy it nice or buy it twice.”
We’re told, when you pay a little more, it may save you money in the long run because those models are more energy efficient.
“It’s also important to keep in mind that these great old products that lasted 30 years, also use about 80% more energy than the new ones that come out, so as you purchase it and then continue to use it, those old ones cost you significantly more to use on a day to day basis,” says Shift Manager David Anderson.
He also tells us, you will see the full life out of your appliances if you read the instructions and follow them.
