KIMT News 3 – Poet, author, and activist; Maya Angelou has gone by many names and Wednesday we are learning she has died at the age of 86.
She survived a rough childhood to become a force on stage, screen and print.
Angelou was honored with the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Wednesday we spoke with a college instructor, who says she plans to use Angelou’s work to teach her students.
“She has done so much that they can look to as far as tremendous ability, talent and meaning that she has conveyed, not only through her words but also her actions,” says NIACC Communications Instructor, Sethanne DeGabriele.
Angelou died this morning at her home in North Carolina.
