A local fire department is filling pools

CHARLES CITY, Iowa – It’s that time of year, home swimming pools are starting to reappear. But, sometimes when the kids are ready to beat the heat and jump in, they need to wait for it to fill up, which could take hours or days depending on the size.

One local fire department is trying to speed up this process.

For a small fee, the Charles City Fire Department will bring in a truck and do it for you, in much less time.

The $50.00 per truckload is about what you would pay in water costs anyway. That money goes back into the department for equipment and projects.

However, it’s not just the money that’s beneficial for them.

“The other thing we looked at is that it gives the volunteers practice with water shuttling and water pumping, things like that. So, they gain from that like we gain from the financial part of it somewhat as well as the experience and training with using the equipment,” says Assistant Chief Marty Parcher.
