ALBERT LEA, Minn. – Finding a college with affordable tuition can be hard to come by, especially if you are headed somewhere out of state.
Some local schools are teaming up to make it easier for Iowans to go north of the border.
Riverland Community College and Minnesota State University, Mankato are teaming up for what they are calling “Future Mavericks.”
It would guarantee admission to both colleges if you are accepted to one of them and in-state tuition rates for both schools. Students will be able to complete their first two years of schooling at Riverland and seamlessly transition to MSU-Mankato for the next two or more years.
It is designed specifically for Iowa students.
“It’s about access and distance and opportunities, so, in part, we wanted to provide that access and a pathway for students that want to get an education,” said MSU-Mankato President Richard Davenport.
He said MSU-Mankato has around 115,000 alumni and many of them are from Iowa. Davenport said many of them have asked if there is a way to make tuition more affordable for their children.
