DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A 17-year-old Des Moines father has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of his infant son.
The Des Moines Register reports that the teen is set to stand trial in August for the April 22nd death of 4-month-old Gabriel King McFarland.
The Associated Press generally does not name juveniles charged with crimes.
The teen is also charged with neglect of a dependent person.
The infant’s death came weeks after he was adopted and then returned by court order to his birth mother.
Police say the birth mother left Gabriel alone with his teen father while she ran errands. When she returned, the baby was found unresponsive and declared dead at a local hospital.
