MASON CITY, Iowa – The man accused of destroying a piano in downtown Mason City has pled not guilty to third degree criminal mischief and public intoxication. 21-year-old Coltin Schupbach of Des Moines allegedly tipped over one of four painted pianos in the early morning hours of May 18, less than a week after they were put on display. The Mason City Chamber of Commerce had worked with area high school juniors to hand paint the pianos for the “Tunes for the Town” project.
Schupbach has posted $2,000 cash bond. His pre-trial hearing has been set for August 8 in Cerro Gordo County District Court. A jury trial has been scheduled for August 19.
