KIMT News 3 - Now that medical marijuana and cannabis oil are legal in Minnesota, there is a growing need for employees in this field.
It’s an up-and-coming industry, but one with requirements that might be a little out of the ordinary.
The position is known as a Medical Cannabis Director.
Directors will be responsible for overseeing the process of taking the marijuana plant and transforming it into its medicinal form.
Manny Munson-Regala is the assistant commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Health.
He says there are a number of qualifications to meet in order to be considered for the position, but they’re not all focused around one specific subject.
“You are likely going to need a combination of agriculture, pharmacy, business and then manufacturing being able to turn the plant into medication,” he says.
Munson-Regala says there is a specific need for a business background and understanding how to make a sound and viable business model in order for the operation to be successful.
“If you’re a patient, you’re going to want to kind of rely that your manufacturer will be in business three months, or year from now,” he says, ”you’re going to sustain a business model to kind of keep up and running.”
