Stress and sugar


MASON CITY, Iowa – Are you one that reaches for sugary food when stressed?  Well it may just be your taste cells talking.

According to a recent study, a hormone directly linked to your taste cells may be triggered when you’re stressed out.  That can lead to you grabbing that cupcake or cookies.  Registered Dietitian Jess Pavlinec says it’s not uncommon to see people grabbing for food when stressed out, but it can be dangerous.

“Fruits, vegetables, something like a yogurt for that kind of sweet treat or maybe even if you’re able to, a little bit of some dark chocolate is really good,” said Jess.

She says this bad habit can easily turn into a trend of overeating. You can stop it by asking yourself, am I really hungry, or just stressed out.
