It’s been years in the making, but now Mason City has achieved its Blue Zones community status.
Community leaders, volunteers, and organizations throughout the city have been working to achieve the certification since 2012.
The city met all requirements that were established for the Blue Zones certified status.
Now officials say while they feel the quality of life has significantly improved for the community, the work is not done yet.
“Going forward now we’ll continue to maintain these programs that have been developed. The changes that have been proposed such as; the additional bicycle trails, pedestrian trials that we’re looking at, other changes that have been made with regards to policy within the city,” explains City Administrator Brent Trout.
The official announcement will come a week from tomorrow with a celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony in Central Park.
