Suspect caught in burglary at Sears

MASON CITY, Iowa – A north Iowa man is facing criminal charges after an attempted burglary early Saturday morning.

22-year-old Daniel Rish Jr. of Mason City was caught inside of the Sears store on south Federal Avenue in Mason City.

Police responded to a call of alarms going off inside of the building around 2:30 a.m. and found an open door.

Mason City Police Officer Terrance Prohaska says, upon arrival to the scene, officers say they saw the subject’s bike leaning up against the wall next to the opened door.

“Fortunately some of the officers were already in the area. One was as close as the cemetery just north one block of Sears,” he says, “and they responded to Sears and surrounded the building like we do in our routine procedures of an alarm call.”

Officers are reminding business and home owners to always double check to see if doors are locked before leaving your residence or building.

Rish is facing charges of third degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance.
