Becoming beginner bosses

STUDENTS AT NIACC

MASON CITY, Iowa –   It’s an academy for those ready to take on the world with their ideas, and they’re starting off at a young adult age.

Bring on the ideas!  These high schools students are starting off their summer learning how to some day, be their own boss or start up their own business.

It’s all part of the Youth Entrepreneurial Academy at North Iowa Area Community College.

Tim Putnam, one leader of the program, says the best part is to hear their amazing ideas.

“The best part is really watching the students learn and grow.  We ask the students to come in with an idea of a business they could start tomorrow and at the end of the week we’re really looking to reward them,” said Putnam.

More than 20 students are participating in this year’s program.  At the end, select students are chosen to receive a $500 grant toward their business idea.
