Big Ten bowl money going to MN non-profits

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Bad news for Penn State is good news for some charities in Olmsted County. Bowl revenue forfeited by the school is going to the University of Minnesota Rochester and it, in turn, is donating the money to three local non-profits. $45,870 is being handed over to UMR. $25,870 will be given to the Rochester Area Family YMCA; the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester will get $10,000, and $10,000 will go to the United Way of Olmsted County.

As part of sanctions imposed on Penn State, the school’s share of Big Ten bowl revenues from 2012 through 2016 are designated for charitable donations. The school forfeited $2.752 million this year. Nearly $230,000 went to the University of Minnesota and that was evenly divided among the U of M’s five campuses.
