ALBERT LEA, Minn. – The sewer system in Albert Lea is experiencing back ups due to extremely high flows caused by persistent rain this week. In addition, power has been lost at several lift stations around town. Generators and mobile pumps have been deployed, but residents are being asked to limit their water useage however possible. Officials are reminding property owners that sump pump discharges must be routed outdoors and not into floor drains or sewers.
Residents of Thornton, IA are also being asked to limit their water usage. City Clerk Michelle Duff says with the heavy rain, they are concerned about the lift station being overwhelmed. The city is asking residents to use as little water as possible and avoid doing any laundry for the time being.
