MASON CITY, Iowa - Our nation is as diverse as ever and local communities want to make sure they’re able to help their ever-changing populations.
Thursday at NIACC folks were learning how to better understand the Latino communities. Educators from across north Iowa and local community leaders were taking part. Jean Ostrander, an organizer of the group says it’s very important to address diverse communities.
“It’s great bringing educators together on this special topic. It’s something that we, here in north Iowa, have not done collectively to talk about the issues and demographics,” said Ostrander.
Ostrander says one important lesson she’s taking from this is the difference in wealth throughout our country. She says another big part of the program is to help others understand how to reach out to young Latinos especially because it’s the fastest growing population in Iowa.
