ROCHESTER, Minn. – A local organization is once again helping students in our area get ready for school. The Olmsted County United Way kicked off their annual “Running Start for School” drive Thursday afternoon. Businesses around the county will have bins placed for items like backpacks, pencils, notebooks, etc. More than 4,000 local students were helped last year and officials are hoping for more this year. “About a third of our students in our area are on free and reduced lunches. I think raising awareness that not everybody can just go to the store and put things in their cart. I think sometimes people forget about that,” President of the Olmsted County United Way Laura Bowman said.
