ROCK FALLS, Iowa – A man who was pulled out of the Shell Rock River on Saturday has died.
A spokesperson from Mercy Medical Center North Iowa says Donald Bakken, 79, of Mason City has died from his injuries.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff told KIMT News 3 that Bakken had been tubing on the river when he became stressed in the rapidly-moving water.
He fell in and struggled to stay afloat as the current carried him downstream.
Officials tell us he then called out for help, which alerted bystanders on shore to pull him to safety.
