ALBERT LEA, Minn. – Fake checks are circulating in southern Minnesota and police are asking for help from local businesses to put a stop to it.
Albert Lea police say checks are being written from Misty Possehl using an Americanna National Bank account.
The problem is, police say that account has been closed for several years.
Police have confirmed those checks as stolen.
“We’ve got a video of one of the checks being passed. It’s a female that’s on the check; it’s a male that’s passing it,” said Detective Ben Mortensen of the Albert Lea Police Department.
He said it is always best to check someone’s ID when they give you a check.
If you do get one of these checks, he said to call police right away and do not take the check because they are no good.
