MASON CITY, Iowa – Area businesses are in full preparation mode, getting ready for RAGBRAI riders to take over in about three weeks.
Many businesses holding liquor licenses attended an informational meeting Tuesday, hosted by local law enforcement and the Iowa Division of Alcoholic Beverages. They went over what these folks need to know during RAGBRAI as far as abiding by the law, and suggestions to keep them out of trouble.
Owners tell us they appreciate the advice, because they don’t want any set backs on potentially their biggest money making day of the year.
We’ll be packed the whole day, so to have to deal with breaking some law that we could have learned about at the meeting today, it would really slow us down,” says Co-Owner of the Mason City Brewing Company Jake Rajewsky.
Some of the tips for business owners include sticking to beer cans instead of bottles, and having someone at the door checking ID’s and monitoring capacity.
They also let those in attendance know specific rules when it comes to outdoor beer gardens and how they can get a temporary indoor/outdoor liquor license.
