MASON CITY, Iowa – The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors has reached a severance agreement with a former county employee.  Under the deal, the county will pay Scott Tepner $93,000 and Tepner agrees to release the county from all legal claims past, present and future.

Tepner, the county’s former director of Management Information Systems, was placed on leave in March 2013 for criminal charges which were later either dismissed or for which Tepner was found not guilty.  While he was on leave, the position of MIS director was eliminated.

The Cerro Gordo County MIS department was recently investigated by the state auditor’s office, which found $2,893.03 in improper and unsupported disbursements and undeposited collections.  The investigation also found it impossible to determine if additional improper payments or non-deposits occurred because sufficient records were not available.
