MASON CITY, Iowa – This holiday wouldn’t be complete without some amazing Fourth of July food, but keeping that tasty food safe is something everyone should be keeping in mind. That includes cooking the meat to the right temp and keeping those pasta salads chilled.
Local registered dietitian, Jess Pavlinec with Hy-Vee, says holiday cooking can be healthy and easy if you follow these steps.
“What’s important keep hot foods hot, keep cold foods cold. If you have something on the grill keep it in a tin foil pan. If its cold keep it in a pan with ice underneath it and keep refilling it,” said Jess.
Jess suggests also trying to stick to some healthy food which could include eating salmon or chicken and to make sure you’re always washing your hands before and after cooking.
