Yellow Ribbon holds 3rd Annual Freedom Festival

AUSTIN, Minn. – Events are taking place all over the nation to celebrate the country’s 238th birthday. From parades to festivals, there is a whole lot going on this weekend.

In Albert Lea, there was everything from food to entertainment at the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Freedom Festival. They put it on at the newly renovated Fountain Lake Park.

They really just want people to hang out and talk to area veterans.

“It’s so great to have the community come out and show that they care about the veterans and they’re interested in supporting our group, which in turn supports those military families,” said Kelli Lageson with Beyond the Yellow Ribbon.

Plus, they have got a special memorial this year.

“It showcases 330 names of Minnesota soldiers who have died since 9/11 and below it’s got those dog tags and just kind of shows you the magnitude of how many people we’ve lost,” Lageson said.

The Albert Lea Yellow Ribbon group is made up of representatives from the city, public safety, schools and more.
