FREDERICKSBURG, Iowa – Officials with the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office say they arrested a man Monday after an incident involving drunk driving, assault on an officer, fleeing, and a taser.
According to a statement from Sheriff Todd Miller, the incident began at 11 a.m. in Fredericksburg when a deputy responded to a motor vehicle crash. The deputy performed a breath test on Benjamin Duitscher, 28, which found signs of alcohol.
Officials say that’s when Duitscher punched the deputy, who then knocked Duitscher down and used a taser, but Duitscher was able to run off.
Several agencies responded to help in the search for the suspect, which lasted until 2:42 p.m. Duitscher was found near the Fredericksburg Municipal Pool and taken into custody without incident.
Duitscher was taken to jail on felony charges of assault on a peace officer with intent to seriously injure, interference with official acts with infliction of serious injury, and operating while intoxicated – third or subsequent offense, as well as misdemeanor charges of unsafe turning, and driving while license revoked for previous OWI.
Two deputies were treated and released from Mercy Medical Center – New Hampton.
