Clear Lake prepares for RAGBRAI

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – We are exactly two weeks away from the North Iowa overnight RAGBRAI stops in Mason City and Forest City and the prep work is in full swing.

Although Clear Lake isn’t a host town, they’re still hard at work preparing to accommodate thousands of riders as they pass through.

The RAGBRAI spirit is already starting to invade the downtown area and the RAGBRAI committee has a full line up of entertainment planned starting at 9:30 in the morning, running all the way until 4:00 in the afternoon.

The downtown area will also undergo a fun transformation, as all the sections on the sidewalk around the park will be turned into game board squares to represent local businesses, as well as important events.

Clear Lake RAGBRAI General Chairman, Diane Thompson, said they’re expecting to feed around 30,000 riders lunch and then safely get them on their way.
Clear lake was a host town back in 2010, so Diane said she can’t wait to see how this year turns out.

“Everybody here had a great time. I think the riders had a good time, it was a great day. We were really excited to be able to be a part of it again. We’ve never been a pass through town before, so it’s going be a lot different. I thought it would be like being a host town, but smaller, but there’s a lot of thing that happen that are not at all like a host town.”

Be sure to watch KIMT in the days leading up to, and during RAGBRAI for extensive coverage on all the events.
